A growing number of tokens claim to be backed by physical gold. Verification standards, custody arrangements, and regulatory status vary widely between them. This page tracks what exists today — and is building toward a single venue where any qualifying gold token can be bought, sold, and settled, regardless of issuer.
Today the tokenised gold market is fragmented — each issuer runs its own venue, its own onboarding, its own liquidity. We're building goldtokenmarket.com toward a single execution layer where investors can access any qualifying gold token, from any issuer that meets our verification standard, without opening a separate relationship for each one. This is a direction we're building toward, not a service available today.
Not an exhaustive list, and not an endorsement — a reference point. Figures are approximate and change frequently.
| Token | Issuer | Standard | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| XAUT | Tether Gold | ERC-20 | Largest by market cap; custodian-attested, no on-chain bar-level verification |
| PAXG | Paxos | ERC-20 | Second largest; similar model to XAUT |
| DGLD | Gold Token SA / MKS PAMP | Proprietary | Swiss-based; uses proprietary bar-fingerprinting technology |
| SGT | Swiss Gold Token | ERC3643 / CMTAT | Swiss, permissioned standard, independent verification model — pre-launch |
Gold-backed tokens are being pitched as a store of value, a collateral instrument, and an on-ramp to physical gold — but "gold-backed" means very different things depending on who issued it and how the backing is verified. This page exists to make those differences visible, as the category grows.
